Simil'R Matech Ford GT - Completemach1_2003 02-11-2012, 07:48 PM This is the Simil'R Ford GT just finished today. Building this kit was a challenge at times. I'm not going to bash the kit with a bunch of negative comments but I will say there were some fit problems and a lack of molded in detail on the individual parts (even though there are a lot of parts). My doors also didn't fit well and I had to choose opened or closed and I chose closed because that's how I prefer to display my models. The decals in this kit are fantastic! Painted with Tamiya Deep Metallic Blue and cleared with Tamiya clear then polished. Wheels are painted with TS-30 Silver Leaf. Built for the most part out of the box but not completely. I added the antenna from wire and the body latches from some spare PE sets I had and replaced the kit headlights. The Lemans car is supposed to have yellow tinted headlight covers but I preferred clear. I also changed out the kit windshield wiper because the one that came with the kit thick as a brick... :headshake Thanks for looking. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/justdande/SimilR%20Matech%20Ford%20GT/Work004.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/justdande/SimilR%20Matech%20Ford%20GT/Work020-1.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/justdande/SimilR%20Matech%20Ford%20GT/Work008.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/justdande/SimilR%20Matech%20Ford%20GT/Work007.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/justdande/SimilR%20Matech%20Ford%20GT/Work006.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/justdande/SimilR%20Matech%20Ford%20GT/Work017.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/justdande/SimilR%20Matech%20Ford%20GT/Work015.jpg cjsbosox 02-11-2012, 09:08 PM Impressive 2 my eyes. I've been wanting to see one of these finished. Mach1 yous work is clean, decals and paint look sharp. Wish I could see it in person. Thanks for sharing rallymaster 02-11-2012, 09:10 PM Eric, this is a beautiful model and a perfect build ! The tires and wheels seems particularly good, did you work on them or are they oob ? sam01contact 02-11-2012, 09:53 PM Beautiful model! Did you use any out of the box detail? viperofoz 02-11-2012, 09:57 PM Wow... you have done a beautiful job on this difficult kit Eric..... I'm impressed. I received mine on Friday and have only had a quick look and test fitted a few body parts so far, but you have confirmed my paint choice since I am restricted to spray cans at the moment. After seeing another online build, I was thinking of attaching the front fenders to the nose cone, making it a one piece assembley, and allowing me to fill all gaps before painting as this seems to be a real weak point in this kit...... although yours looks fine, what work did you do in this area? Regards, Dan ZoomZoomMX-5 02-11-2012, 10:31 PM Looks awesome  Not that I expected any less! Hope to see this one in person. OMAR1969 02-12-2012, 12:43 AM Nice car , nice model , nice work , congratulations . ridefast 02-12-2012, 02:56 AM This is one gorgeous build. I wanted to see one built before I decided if I buy this kit. Now I definitely want to get one too. :) Mikezibit 02-12-2012, 05:47 AM HI looks awesome :bigthumb: Mike sportracer02 02-12-2012, 07:00 AM Very nice, great execution mach1_2003 02-12-2012, 07:13 AM Thanks guys. The wheels and tires are out of the box. The only thing I added was some freehand lettering for set number, etc then sprayed with flat clear to seal the lettering and decal. Parts and extra detail that didn't come in the box were the antenna, body latches, gold foil heat shield on the airbox and I replaced the PE mesh on the airbox filter because the PE part that came with the kit was way to wide and prevented the engine cover from sitting on the body properly. The kit comes with PE seatbelt hardware but you have to provide the seatbelt material. nostalgicrally 02-12-2012, 07:17 AM This kit has to be the best-seller of the beginning of year 2012. He is on many designer's assembly plans. Yours build is exceptionally beautiful Deeply the release of the transkit decal for Blanpain and Marc VDS (seen in the show of Nuremberg) Eric sebasoakley 02-12-2012, 11:30 AM excelent job, really very nice. auw12 02-12-2012, 12:37 PM Have seen some pics of the kit and I guess it could be a nightmare to build, but not in your case! Brilliant work as always! chaos 02-12-2012, 03:00 PM Fantastic build! da_ashman 02-12-2012, 05:37 PM Stunning build!! Looks fantastic finished!! Robi J 02-13-2012, 04:40 AM I recently had the kit in my hands for a few days and got the impression of a non-easy duty. You did a fantastic job. R  Kaj45rpm 02-13-2012, 06:54 AM Very nice build Eric, looks fantastic and even better with the panels removed. Awesome looking car. I'll need to add this to my shopping list. How many coats of TS-13 clear did you apply and did you sand or compound when dry? Too many kits, not enough time! mach1_2003 02-14-2012, 09:18 AM Thanks again everyone... After seeing another online build, I was thinking of attaching the front fenders to the nose cone, making it a one piece assembley, and allowing me to fill all gaps before painting as this seems to be a real weak point in this kit...... although yours looks fine, what work did you do in this area? I did the same thing but I attached the nose piece first and then attached the fenders to the nose piece at the end of the assembly. The reason I did this was to allow me to adjust the back edge of the fender to better line up with the door. It allowed me a little time to adjust it's location. Where as, if you attach the fenders to the nose piece early in the process you would no longer be able to adjut their location to also match the doors. How many coats of TS-13 clear did you apply and did you sand or compound when dry? I sprayed two light (mist) coats of clear and one wet coat. After it cured I polised it with Tamiya Coarse and fine polish. After I applied the decals I did a final wax with Tamiya liquid wax to remove finger prints, dust and decal adhesive. I didn't have to do any wet sanding on the kit before it was polished. BVC500 02-14-2012, 09:33 AM Great job! exhaust smoke 02-14-2012, 09:42 AM Excellent build. I can see from some of the engine bay details that it lacks some of the finesse of the likes of the big 5 (Tamiya, Aoshima, Fujimi, Hasegawa, Revell). Still, would not put me off buying though  Sonomaturn2 02-17-2012, 11:28 PM Absolutely stunning!!! I've always enjoyed your skill, Eric. griffin-gt40 02-19-2012, 05:48 PM Eric, The GT looks amazing. I'm waiting for mine to arrive, and after seeing your results I'm hoping mine turns out half as well. Just a couple of questions, do you have any WIP shots? I'd like to see some more detailed shots of whats under all the coverings. Also, what type of gold foil did you use? Manufacturer and part# if you have it still would be much appreciated. Again, fantastic job on what looks to be a very challanging kit. David. DerXL 02-20-2012, 02:59 PM Fantastic looking build. Can't see any of the issues you've mentioned in the end result. Beautiful!!! KevHw 02-20-2012, 06:28 PM Good job, it's a very striking design  Deadmau5 02-21-2012, 02:57 PM Fantastic! To get a great result like yours on a very difficult kit has more credit... Congrats! Hiroboy 02-25-2012, 11:30 AM Very nice build:) John18d 02-27-2012, 02:47 PM Nice build Mach1 - John Outlaw66 04-28-2012, 09:24 PM Stunning work Eric...outstanding ! Looks like perfect...:evillol: I have a question. What are the dimensions of it ? I have intentions to design a decal for it, but I need the exact dimensions: widht, lenght and height. I know that the kit body is made of a several parts, and if I try to do an assembly test I won't be able to acquire the exact measures. As you have the model complete, it's easier to you to get these measures. Automotive Articles .com, Copyright ©2012
