First time I saw this kit on it's way I knew I had to have it, it did look a bit strange on first pictures I saw (once kit compleated) but it did not uncurage me to buy it.
I have seen few reviews and read that something is not 100% sure with samo of car's proportions but to be fully open, I can not find any flaw except...wheels do look to small from some angles.
When checked I noticed that tires supplyed with the kit were to small (wall was to small) while width was OK.
So I checked all other kits I have and found tires from Alfa TZ2, that had bigger walls, same Dunlop thread and width as these for 33.
Once put and compared, it changed apearence dramaticaly.

Ok, enaugh talk, let's do some pictures

I am way past beggining and was to lazy to take photos during the build, this is where I stand at the moment. Some more work on chasis and it will be done. I must say that it look and build perectly.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/photo14.jpg

The only problem with the kit is, that it has no interior, meaning, no door panels from inside, no carpet or any other leather part of the interior. Good thing is, It will not be to hard to schrach those.
More to follow soon.
Thanks for watching ;-)

One of my fantasy garage cars and so am very glad to see someone build and document it here.
Is this the early or late version?
I really love the late version with the black mesh areas; it makes it look more menacing.

Thanks guys, I know that all Alfa enthusiast like this car and I am no different :)

Even thou I love those mesh areas, I simply dislike front lights on late version, that was the only reason I took this early one :)

So, let's go back to the wheels, I know it might not show that good on the pictures but difference is huge.

My favorite classic sport car, itīs just awesome, Iīm tryng to find this same MFH kit (early version) but Iīve only found the late versión (single headlights). I think itīs out of production right now
One thing that I noted when I planned to buy this kit, itīs that it doesnīt have the black mesh behind the rear wheel arches as some reference pictures of the early version, (I donīt know if itīs an accuracy issue of the kit or simply there was a version wihout it) because the MFH late version kit has those mesh replicated.

It seems very challenging as other garage kits, but your work looks great already... definitely following this one.

There were 18 of those made and not single two are same, the one on the picture is a combo with twin headlights and rear deck from later version, note the windscreen wiper, first example had it on roof, also air duckt on rear hood is single piece and first one had it devided in sections. The one from your picture is my favorite also, but to build it you would need both kits, or a lot of patience and some very thin mesh :)

Robi, Micha, thanks guys ;)

Hi Sasa, that's the exact reason I chose the early version as well! The TZ2 tyres do suit the car better, guess I'll have to order a spare set from Mr. Hiro.

Very nice work so far. The car you are modeling is the prototype Stradale. On all the contemporary photos I have seen the wheels were painted silver on the prototype so the Alfa Museum painted them gold later. The prototype was also the only car with the four headlight configuration. The vents on the side were added later in it's life by the Alfa Museum. You might also try to get one of the Quattroruote 1/24th T33 diecasts as this Hiro kit is missing most of the interior details, the diecast has them.

Thanks Tom, I was wondering about some other details to. In the mean time I decided to do car from Alfa museo, I have traced the lines for the vents and found some mesh. Also I am thinking of redoing the dashboard...but that could be a bit bigger challange.
Thank you for all the facts, I like to read something that can't be usualy seen on the internet.

Sasa: if a vent's template of the MFH late '33 would be helpful, I'll trace and scan. I bought also the early kind but approx. at the same time I seen in person (with Klutz/Steve) at a exibit the late version with big vents on fenders and I fell in love... I sold the early and bought the racing late kind....

Wey, great job old mate, BTW!

Nice to see you Gio and Steve :)

Gio, I allready did the template thing :)), ok not a template but sort of a free hand and a lot of photos :)
The thing is, late version has one big hole vs. two holes on this one...so...off I go :)

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/IMG_3176.jpg

first I did one side, then trace it to tamy tape and copied to other side.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/IMG_3177.jpg

cut is made with proxxon and some various bits, a bit messy but doable

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/IMG_3178.jpg

the problem is inside, very thich body need some trim in order to flush fit the mesh

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/IMG_3179.jpg

some testing mesh, not the one I will use but only as a guide to clean arront the vents from the inside

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/IMG_3180.jpg

a bit of primer to check, I still need to adjust the size on both sides but I am preaty happy how this turned out....and I didn't brake anything :)))

Tima for a small update, I am playing with interior a bit, trying to replicate all the missing things. First thing is leather ribbed part on the reservoir and carpet for interior.

I took piece of styren and formed it arrond knife blade with hair dryer to for a kind of U shape, then I put strips of Tamy tape...first try...to narrow

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/IMG_3203.jpg

then I cut a bit wider stripes and painted all with Tamy primer...now the size is OK and it doesn't look that bad. Carrpet is from MFH and it looks very nice, I also have one idea for central part and dashboard, I will share in next days.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/IMG_3263.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/IMG_3264.jpg

I also added exhaust to the engine and shorten this reservoir cap since it was hiting the rear bonnet

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/IMG_3265.jpg

Primed everything, a little bit more work arround the vents and for now it looks more or less ok, everything fits well.

Thanks guys ;-)

not many pictures to show...one to be precise :) but a lot of wark has been done.

Mid tunnel is dressed in shrinking tube to replicate leather, painted of course afterwards. I wanted to do the same with dashboard but in the end it did't look to good, so I decided to to everything with putty and paint.
Driver side reservoir is done with MFH carpet and stiren/tamy tape leather :)

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/IMG_3422.jpg

One thing thou, I didn't notice that before, but co-driver area is more narrow then drivers side, and seat doesn't fit :)... so some butchery will be needed.

interior close to finish, side panels made out of styren and tamy tape again, light preshade with dark brown and some strange mix for light brown.

Work continues, I even decided to take out the camera :) there was finger of dust on it :)

I have add few details on door panels made from some PE leftovers (door handle) and some scaleracecars PE washers and 0,5 welding wire (door opening lever)

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3059055.jpg

Also I decided to remake rear bonnet vents because supplied ones are...well...not good :)
First try was styren (you can see some leftovers on picture above), and it was mess, so I took some 0,5 brass sheet and cutted out strips, adopt them a bit and here they are, don't mind the messy look, I fixed them only with tape for picture taking purpose, they will look fine in the end.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3059053.jpg

Front part of the body received first light coat of clear (some Zero red underneath) to prepare it for few decals that will go on fenders. I do realise that those are decals that go on top of clearcoat but I just like to seal all the decals under clear.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3059047.jpg

And here are some shots of chassis almost done, please don't mind all the dust and iregularities, I still need to clean everything a bit and touch paint some spots.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3059035.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3059033.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3059029.jpg

Of course everything in the interior is still dry fitted, I need some more adjustments to make in order to fit everything properly.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3059046.jpg

that's it for now, I continue to work on interior, rear bonnet and clear coat.

Thanks for watching.

a lot of time passed by and I was doing not so bad, unitl this afternoon.

well let me shoe you the picture of this morning....

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3189063.jpg

she looks lovely from this angle :) but I was not realy setisfied with the rear hood, so I decided to sand it a bit more and give it one more coat of clear.
of course previous paint in my airbrush was semi gloss black for the interior of the body, and I did quick clean up few days ago, I put clear in the airbrush, did the work and you know that moment...when you thing, just one more pass and it will be perfect (and you realy didn't need that one at all :)), and my airbrush spitted that sg black from few days ago (looks like it didn't like the taste of it :))
and this is where I stand now. I will wait for it to fully cure and tryed to sand those black spots out because I would relay hate to strip everything down.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3189070.jpg

interior is done and next update will be very soon (if I don't mess up something :))

Thank you guys ;)

I have done a bit more, now is the stage of fitting and fitting and all the small changes to make everything fit perfectly.

Interior is more or less done, I am wondering, to add co-driver belts also or to leave it like this, I know I should put them on...but somehow it looks like part time racer in this way. We'll see :)

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3259228.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3259225.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3259221.jpg

Now to show you what are the fitting problem (well maybe not a problem but this multimedia kits are like that), I have moved the body toward rear for about 1,5mm because engine cover was not sitting properly and wheels were not in the center, to do this I had to cut part of the chassis (not to important if you ask me) and also to cut down reservoir cap for a lot (maybe it is ment to be like this, if you drill the hood in order for cap to stick outside of the body...but this is not shown anywhere).
Ok, photos with inside engine cover, again problem, it is not centered in the right way and lid is not closing like it should (you can see gap in folowing photos)

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3259193.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3259194.jpg

if you remove this part (inner engine cover) everything fits perfectly, so I will have to trim it down a bit.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3259209.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3259213.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3259217.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/sjelic/P3259223.jpg

head lights look realy cool and are very well engeenered, I also tried all the window trims and fit is absolutely perfect.
More to follow, next thing is rear fender meshes, I have found some that should look good, now only to fit it :)

Thanks for watching.
