I have a 2000 Silverado 4X4 with a 5.3l.

Does anyone know if I can have the dealer flash the computer, so that I can buy a key FOB and have remote start.

A buddy of mine told me that everything is already programed into the computer, and all I would have to do is buy the key FOB, and have the dealer flash the computer, or maybe program the computer and program the key FOB and I am good to go.

I thoought this might be a better plan rather then having to bypass the passlock II system and buying a after market remote starter system.

Thanks for you input.

if you require an fob for you vehicle purchase the correct one. then follow the FOB learn proceedure. this vehicle comes with FOB.

on remote start the ignition system security will need be bypassed. this is a common well known task. some members here do this. I don't.

all I can say is make sure any wiring work done is properly soldered and crimped for trouble free operation.

if your needing the proceedure I can post it . since I have a 2000 sil 4X4 LT 4dr ext cab. P.U. ..

Thank you,

What I was wondering was, Is there a remote start option "loaded" onto the vehicles computer when it comes from the factory.

If you purchase the truck with the remote start option, you receive a key FOB from the dealer and away you go,

If your truck wasn't purchased with the remote start option, a friend of mine seems to think that you can purchase a key FOB from the dealer, and if there is a "knowledgeable tech" at the dealership, they will be able to Flash the Computer, and that will install the remote start option already loaded on the vehicles computer.

Then they will program the key FOB.

Just wondering it anyone has heard such a thing.

My truck never came from the factory with remote start.

in feb of 2000 I ordered my 2000 silverado . at that time there was no remote auto start option from the factory. the dealership does have many many add on's...this is how they jack up your cost and increase the profit.

all you have to do is call around your area and ask the installers of these .

many I know had the remote start installed. need parts and re-wiring.
