From an earlier time, I had this problem with my dash board brake lights on intermittently. They would come on and stay on randomly - never knowing when, but assuredly, they would come on daily. Well, what solved my problem was that i had Pep Boys do a brake fluid flush. No problem since then - thought I'd write to advise and to not keep an old three flowing!
