What it takes: A Day in the Life of a Car Designer (Part 1)
Transportation design seems to be the major endeavor for the automotive youth in this day in time. People see shows on TV depicting people building choppers, cars, and other custom vehicles with complete ease. Then these same viewers think they can do the same. Quite contrary to first impression, it is a tremendous task to build a custom auto using existing plans, much less build one from scratch.

Not So Great a Boulevardier…
I did not realise that my brother was a lucky man until he said that he wanted to borrow my Mercedes ‘E’ Class Turbo Diesel estate. In return he would lend me his BMW 850. My brother took me out to his garage so I could have a look at the 850. When he opened the door, wonder of wonders, it was an 850 CSi Motorsport in highly polished Brilliant Red with the optional 18” wheels. These were black with polished rims and, very sensibly, steel valves. Things were beginning to look up by the minute for I next noticed that it was a manual 6 speeder.

August a Tough Month for Automakers
The nation’s top two automakers reported down sales for the third straight month today, according to Reuters. General Motors and Ford both saw demand for their aging lineup of cars slip 7 percent and 5.9 percent, respectively, as consumers continued to shift toward rival Chrysler and the foreign brands.

On August 15, 2004, the Indy 300 came to Kentucky Speedway, only about an hour away from AutomotiveForums.com’s home office in Lexington, KY. Obviously, we were not going pass up on an opportunity to see cars going at a constant 210 mph plus right in our backyard.
