Bolstered by innovative incentives, GM’s sales figures for the month of June rocked the entire automotive industry. Yet, for most other makes, June was a flat-to-up month.

Ghosts of Cherokee: 2006 Jeep Commander
Visitors of the 2005 New York International Auto Show may have thought they saw a ghost the second they stepped into the Jeep display area. A ghost of the last Jeep Cherokee, that is. In an attempt to return to its “classic” design, and appease those who haven’t exactly been pleased with the soft look of the current Liberty, Jeep has come up with this boxy version of the current Grand Cherokee called the Commander.

Nissan Celebrates New Design Center with Sport Concept Debut
Apparently one US design studio isn’t enough for Nissan. Earlier this month, the Japanese automaker opened the doors of Nissan Design America – Farmington Hills, a $14 million 50,912 square foot expansion on the campus of Nissan Technical Center North America, Inc. – just outside of Detroit. Interestingly enough, Nissan unveiled their new Sport Concept in conjunction with the opening of NDA – Farmington Hills even though the hatchback was actually designed in Japan.

Lexus IS Makes US Debut
Not long after its world debut in Europe, Lexus has taken the wraps off the US version of its all-new IS sedan at the New York International Auto Show on Wednesday. "We're taking dead aim at the top of the class with the new IS," said Lexus Marketing Vice President Mark Templin. "We plan to offer a compelling range of models and options with class-leading performance and luxury."

2005 New York International Auto Show
The last major auto show in the United States of the 2005 season kicked off Wednesday at New York’s Javits Center. Though not quite as hectic as the larger North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the NYIAS still offers up a good dosage of new automotive metal.

Dodge Nitro Concept SUV
Looking to build on the excitement created by the Magnum and Chrysler 300 in a relatively cost-effective way, Dodge is rolling out a new SUV concept based on the popular Jeep Liberty platform. It makes sense, as Dodge is one of the few mainstream brands in America to have only one SUV in its portfolio. Toyota has five, Nissan has four, Ford has five, and so on… Clearly, Dodge is a little under equipped.

2007 FJ Cruiser: Something Off the Wall From Toyota
What comes to mind when you think of Toyota vehicles? Reliability and quality? Probably. Fuel economy? Maybe. Excitement? Probably not. With few exceptions, Toyotas have not exactly been known of as a lineup of automobiles that sets your heart aflutter. But here comes a curveball now, the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. One look at this truck and it’s clear this isn’t your mother’s Highlander.

Throwdown: BMW Exec Takes Aim at Lexus
The recent introduction of the new Lexus IS apparently has people at BMW headquarters taking notice. It’s no secret that Toyota is planning a major push of the Lexus brand worldwide, and the new IS will play a huge part in that. So when the company went to Geneva to make the vehicle’s world debut, it appears they’ve achieved exactly what they intended to do: ruffle a few feathers.

Miata No More: Mazda Introduces All-New MX-5
Perhaps no car can represent its entire brand better than the Mazda Miata has. It’s the character-full little car that could, representing Japan’s character-full little car company that could. Never big on power, the Miata has always been about pure finesse and a whole lot of fun. But now, the aging classic that sparked a revival of roadsters in America is being replaced. And the name synonymous with Mazda may be going away for good.

Lexus IS Takes Another Stab at the BMW 3-Series
For Lexus, the IS300 is something of an anomaly, a vehicle that has not been a screaming sales success right out of the gate. As of late, the IS300 has had quite the level of incentives placed on the hood to move them out of dealer showrooms. The Infiniti G35 outsells the IS, for Christ’s sake. When’s the last time ANY Infiniti has outsold a Lexus? Toyota, however, is never one to back down from a fight.

Si Concept hints at next Civic
Praised by many for its continued tradition of quality and dependability, but picked apart by some for its lack of excitement, the current Honda Civic has not exactly been the unrivaled sales success its predecessors have. This new Civic Si Concept, displayed at the Chicago auto show, gives us hope that Honda understands it cannot rely on reputation to push merely “good” cars.
